Before any of it — before the wedge, the shadow, the Friday-night save — there was a server room at 3:14 a.m. and a woman looking at a config flag with her own name in the git blame.
ZERO had built the pipe. Somebody had turned it the wrong direction, and the pipe didn't care, because she'd built it not to care — that was the elegant part, the part she'd been proud of. The Mirror Test is the thing she failed that night and spent the rest of the story learning to pass: before you smuggle anything past the corporate immune system, look hard at what you're smuggling.
A cooler interface on an exploitation engine doesn't make you an insurgent. It makes you a decorator for the portrait. The tactics in this whole series are agnostic — gravity pulls hospitals and prisons to the ground with the same force. The physics don't care about your intentions.
The man who wrote all this found his own portrait at a Waffle House on Ponce at 2 a.m., when a waitress refilled his coffee without being asked and looked him dead in the eye — treated him like a human being for two seconds, no formula, no score. That's the whole thing, if you want it cheap: the system optimizes everyone into a number, and the work is learning to see the human under it. Even when the human is you.
Wilde knew it a century early: every portrait painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not the sitter. Your product is your portrait. Look at the engine, not the gradient.
